The Teacher Dashboard enables:

  • Access to an extensive pool of exercises, created by experienced math professionals
  • Management of multiple classes
  • Assigning exercises to individual classes or groups

Is there an offline mode?

Yes, MatheArena can be used completely offline. Students can learn regardless of a stable internet connection, for example on the go or at home without Wi-Fi. This is especially important for a math learning app.

Offline use has three advantages:

  • Learning is possible without a stable internet connection
  • Students can practice on the go or at home without Wi-Fi
  • Use in class is easier in schools with limited internet availability
What data is stored?

MatheArena stores only the absolute minimum necessary: login data, a pseudonymized user ID and learning progress. No additional personal data is collected, and MatheArena strictly adheres to data protection regulations (GDPR).

The following is stored:

  • Login data (for signing in)
  • Pseudonymized user ID (for technical assignment)
  • Learning progress (so your achievements are kept)

Data security is very important to MatheArena, and your privacy comes first.

MatheArena (Junior & Classic)

What is MatheArena?

MatheArena offers two student-centered math learning apps, MatheArena JUNIOR and MatheArena CLASSIC, which enable independent learning. In addition, there is a Teacher Dashboard for teachers. MatheArena was founded by two former math teachers.

Today, MatheArena is developed further by an interdisciplinary team of nine, specializing in sustainably improving math learning through digital learning opportunities grounded in learning psychology. The apps are aimed directly at students, while the Teacher Dashboard is tailored to the needs of teachers.

Alongside developing digital math applications, MatheArena is actively involved in research, exchange on teaching methods and educational partnerships, in order to continuously advance digital education and help shape it on an evidence-based footing.

Difference between JUNIOR and CLASSIC

MatheArena JUNIOR is aimed at grades 5–8 (Mittelschule and lower secondary Gymnasium), MatheArena CLASSIC at grades 9–12 (upper secondary Gymnasium and higher vocational schools such as HAK or HTL, i.e. secondary schools of commerce / technical colleges). CLASSIC also includes advanced math topics.

MatheArena JUNIOR:

  • For Mittelschulen (lower secondary schools, grades 5–8)
  • For lower secondary Gymnasium (grades 5–8)
  • Ideal for reviewing the basics in upper secondary classes

MatheArena CLASSIC:

  • For upper secondary Gymnasium (grades 9–12)
  • For higher vocational schools (HAK, HTL, etc.)
  • Includes advanced math topics

Tip: If you are unsure or have gaps in higher grades, JUNIOR can be used alongside CLASSIC to refresh the basics.

How does the traffic light system work in MatheArena?

MatheArena’s traffic light system shows you how confidently you master individual exercises within a topic. Each exercise is rated individually and marked with a color. It is not just about solving an exercise correctly once, but about consolidating content for the long term.

The colors mean:

  • 🟥 Red: The exercise has not yet been practiced enough.
  • 🟨 Yellow: The exercise has already been solved correctly, but is not yet consolidated.
  • 🟩 Green: The exercise has been solved correctly several times and is considered consolidated.

The colored dot next to an exercise shows you at any time how it is currently rated.

Is there a web version of MatheArena?

Yes, MatheArena is also available as a web version and can be used directly in the browser. In terms of content and functionality it is almost identical to the app: all learning content, exercise formats and your personal learning progress are also available in the browser.

The web versions can be reached at these addresses:

Some minigames are optimized specifically for touch controls. Since the web version is often used on a desktop without a touchscreen, these games can be somewhat harder to control there. In addition, the mobile app generally performs a bit better.

How does MatheArena work?

Students use MatheArena flexibly and individually: they choose topics freely or practice in a targeted way, an adaptive learning system automatically adjusts the exercises to their learning level and pace, and there is instant feedback after every exercise. Teachers complement this with the Teacher Dashboard.

For students:

  • Free choice of topics or targeted practice of specific content
  • An adaptive learning system that automatically adjusts exercises to learning level and pace
  • Instant feedback after every exercise
  • Multiple attempts with hints and explanations when mistakes are made

For teachers, the Teacher Dashboard offers additional options:

  • Creating digital worksheets
  • Targeted assignment of exercises to classes
  • Use in class or as homework

Optionally, duels and minigames can be used to consolidate mathematical concepts in a playful way and boost motivation.

What purchase options are there?

MatheArena offers three purchase options: the in-app purchase for individual students, the discounted class license for schools, and eBook PLUS, where app access is already included in the Veritas cooperation textbook.

The options in detail:

  • In-app purchase: directly in the app for individual students
  • Class license: discounted price exclusively for schools, orderable directly from MatheArena (link to school license)
  • eBook PLUS: when you buy a Veritas cooperation textbook with eBook PLUS, app access is already included (https://www.veritas.at/lern-app-mathearena-junior)
How do I activate my app with the textbook code?

Only textbooks with “eBook PLUS” include app access; not all textbooks automatically include an activation. For these books, the MatheArena app is activated with the textbook code.

You can use all Year 1 content in the MatheArena app for free, even without activation. For higher grades or additional features, you can purchase the app via in-app purchase or order it as a discounted class license directly from MatheArena.

How do I activate my license?

You can activate your MatheArena license in two ways: via the QR code icon in the app or via the settings. In both cases you scan the QR code from your textbook or your license letter. After successful activation, all premium content is available.

Option 1 – Via the QR code icon:

  • Tap the QR code icon in the app
  • Scan the QR code from your textbook or your license letter

Option 2 – Via the settings:

  • Open the settings in the app
  • Select “Activate license”
  • Scan the QR code OR enter the code manually
License already activated

Most MatheArena licenses entitle you to a single activation only. If a license has already been used by an account, it cannot be activated again. It stays permanently linked to the account with which it was originally activated.

Possible causes:

  1. The license has already been used by someone else, e.g. with second-hand textbooks or codes that were passed on
  2. You have already activated the license with a different account. The license remains linked to the original account

Even if you uninstall the app, the link to the account used to activate the license remains. Using it on another device with the same account is no problem.

Solution:

  • Log in with the original account, or
  • Contact MatheArena support if you are unsure which account activated the license, or
  • Purchase a new license if the previous one has already been used
“No existing subscription” despite license

The message “No existing subscription” despite having a license usually appears because MatheArena has to load the premium exercises in the background. This can take a few minutes. In most cases it helps to close the app completely, restart it and wait 2–3 minutes.

Here is what to do:

  1. Close the app completely (remove it from memory)
  2. Restart the app
  3. Wait 2–3 minutes so the content can load completely

If the problem persists, please contact MatheArena support. MatheArena is continuously working to improve the user experience.

What content is available for free?

In the MatheArena app, all Year 1 content is available for free, and every grade can be tried out extensively. For higher grades and additional features, the app can be purchased via in-app purchase or as a discounted class license for schools directly from MatheArena. (link to license order)

Can I cancel the Premium subscription at any time?

Yes, the Premium subscription can be cancelled at any time effective at the end of the current term. Monthly subscription: cancellable at the end of the current month. Annual subscription: cancellable at the end of the current year. Notice period: at least 1 day before the renewal date. In addition, a 14-day right of withdrawal applies from the date of purchase.
